Wintertree Software is pleased to announce the release of WGrammar, a software component developers can use to add grammar-checking capability to their applications.

WGrammar can locate and identify thousands of problems committed by writers of English in dozens of problem categories, including syntax errors, misused words, subject-verb conflicts, wordy and redundant phrases, number agreement errors, stilted terms, etc.

WGrammar can also be used as a text search engine that can efficiently match many (potentially thousands) of multi-word patterns at the same time, making it useful for applications such as

Automatically assigning e-mail to folders or people based on key words and phrases contained in each message;
Checking written text for violations of style guidelines;
Identifying news articles or Web pages which match subjects of interest based on key words and phrases;
Automatically processing free-form text in electronic forms by identifying key phrases.

WGrammar can match words using wildcards or parts-of-speech patterns (e.g., singular nouns or past-tense verbs). WGrammar can also transform matched words into other parts-of-speech forms. For example, it can transform singular nouns to plural, even for irregular forms (such as radius and radii). It comes with a database of over 78,000 words tagged with parts of speech.

The WGrammar Software Development Kit (SDK) includes 32-bit DLLs that are compatible with Windows 9x and NT. The DLLs can be used in any 32-bit Windows development environment, including VC++ and Visual Basic. Source code for example Visual Basic and MFC applications is also included, as is a comprehensive programmer's guide.
